Protecting rights in and beyond Europe
Migration and asylum rules also fall under the remit of this committee. The EPP Group is demanding fairer distribution and sharing of responsibility for asylum seekers between the EU Member States by calling on the European Commission to complement the existing system with a binding mechanism.
The committee also deals with issues around data protection and privacy in the digital age and managing common borders. The EPP Group is pushing hard for robust data protection for EU citizens along with legal certainty and trust for companies, with an overall aim of enhancing the EU’s competitiveness. Supported by the EPP Group, the new General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR), puts Europeans back in control of their personal data.
