EU summit: Competitiveness must become EU's leitmotif

EU

A special European Summit will be held on Wednesday and Thursday to tackle the issues of competitiveness and the EU’s relations with Turkey. "Competitiveness is finally on top of the agenda. Now is the time to act. The European Council must send a clear signal that it understands the urgency. Increasing our competitiveness must become the EU's leitmotif for the coming years," says Christian Ehler MEP, the EPP Group's spokesman on Industry. The EPP Group also insists that leaders start taking concrete action to deliver on their promises to assist Ukraine. “It is shameful that at this crucial moment for Ukraine, our leaders are turning their backs on the issue. The Russian threat is real, and it is not only Ukraine's future that is at stake; it is our future too. If you are serious about protecting citizens, act now. The EU needs a plan to help Ukraine win this war,” stresses Rasa Juknevičienė, EPP Group Vice-Chair in charge of Foreign Affairs.

European Farmers’ Deal to be debated in Italy and Ireland

EPP

As a part of its response to the enormous challenges facing the future of European agriculture, the EPP Group is continuing its dialogue on European agriculture with events in Italy and Ireland. The conferences will take place on Monday in Rome, Italy and on Friday in Carlow, Ireland, where MEPs will bring together European and national policymakers, farmers, agricultural specialists and commentators to discuss the EPP Group vision for a farmer-led, productive and sustainable model for agriculture. "The EPP Group is fighting for an innovative agricultural policy supported by adequate financing, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) and for innovative young farmers," stresses Salvatore De Meo MEP. “The EPP Group is the party of the European farmers and rural communities. We supported farmers in the past and we will continue to do so with sharp determination," adds Siegfried Mureșan MEP, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group in the European Parliament and Chairman of the Working Group on Budget and Structural Policies. Find out more here.
