Simplified and sustainable fishing
The fisheries policy has to reconcile the interests of a wide range of stakeholders while safeguarding the long-term viability of the marine environment and fish stocks, fishermen’s livelihoods and the future of fisheries-related industries and coastal communities.
The EPP Group has protected the livelihoods of North fleet fishermen by backing a framework of rules enabling sustainable fishing in the North Sea. We fought for new rules that simplify the measures they use to catch fish while tailoring measures to the specific needs of each fishery, bringing flexibility to the sector while keeping its main objective: the sustainability of fishery resources.
