EU Marine Action Plan: recipe for economic disaster and biodiversity setback
The EU fisheries sector has proven strategic during Brexit, the pandemic, and the Ukraine war.
In the past, fishermen have taken measures to protect biodiversity and avoid overfishing.
The EU Commission has proposed a #Marine Action Plan with new restrictions, including a ban on bottom fishing in all Marine Protected Areas by 2030.
However, bottom trawlers are responsible for a quarter of the fish caught by the EU and generate 38% of total revenues for the EU fleet. Imposing more fishing bans would damage the environment and jeopardise our jobs!
