The subcommittee on tax matters (FISC), set up under the Economic and Monetary Affairs Committee (ECON), will deal with all tax-related matters.

The EPP Group expects that important issues such as taxation of the digital world will weigh on the work of the subcommittee. As it is, the way we tax companies today is very much reliant on physical presence, which is not fit for purpose for the digital era we are living in today. Ideally, we need international co-operation in the OECD to achieve a coherent way of taxing for instance the big tech companies from the USA - like Google, Amazon Facebook and Apple - but we should be prepared to have a solution in the European Union, if no wider international agreement can be found. There will also be particular focus on the fight against tax fraud, tax evasion and tax avoidance, as well as financial transparency for taxation purposes in the work of the subcommittee.
