Safe borders, safe Europe: a European asylum and migration policy that welcomes and protects

The EPP Group has championed and called on Members States to adopt the 'Migration Pact' to establish a sustainable European-wide framework addressing migration challenges. Our efforts aimed to prevent irregular migration and unauthorized movements within EU countries, combat migrant smuggling and human trafficking, and promote solidarity among EU nations through a robust solidarity mechanism. The Group's adoption of a comprehensive position paper on Asylum and Migration underscored our commitment to protecting European borders, differentiating between refugees and economic migrants, and ensuring the effective return of individuals not requiring international protection. Additionally, we advocated for the external EU emergency funds to address migration causes effectively and emphasized the importance of the new European Border and Coast Guard law in enhancing border security and ensuring efficient returns, making Europe a safer continent for its citizens.

  2. We want stronger EU cooperation to stop migrant smuggling
  3. We want adequate funding and resources for the frontline Agencies to defend EU borders
  4. We want to ensure the effective implementation of European integrated border management
  5. We want an efficient return policy to safeguard Schengen
  6. We want EU funding to strengthen EU external border infrastructure systems
  7. We want a stronger European Border and Coast Guard
  8. We want an efficient, Common European Asylum System, including returns
  9. We want EU aid policy to address the root causes of migration
  10. We want to stop ‘asylum shopping.’ Migrant smugglers will not decide who has the right to enter the EU.
