Romana Tomc studied at the Faculty of Economies in Ljubljana. She was Vice-President of the Slovenian National Assembly. She also took up the position of Vice-President of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe in Strasbourg. While in Slovenia, she worked in three parliamentary committees: the Committee on Labour, Family, Social Affairs and Disability, the Committee on Finance and Monetary Policy, and the Committee on the Economy. Romana Tomc was also Director of the Slovene Human Resources Development and Scholarship Fund. During the Slovenian Presidency of the Council of the EU, she worked as State Secretary at the Ministry of Labour, Family and Social Affairs and before that, she led the Directorate for Labour and Labour Rights. She spent nearly ten years working with the Slovenian Chamber of Commerce and Industry. She was also Secretary of the Slovenian Association of Entrepreneurs, Secretary of the Association of Accounting Services and Secretary of the Council of Experts on Taxation and Financial Issues. She became the Head of Department for economic issues in the Slovenian Association of Employers.
