MEP David Casa condemns Turkey twitter ban
Important notice

“I am increasingly concerned over the continuing deterioration of democratic values in Turkey. In a functioning democracy, where rule of law prevails, citizens should be free to express themselves both on and offline. Blocking social media is unacceptable. Recent developments in Turkey continue to demonstrate that Turkey is regressing rather than making progress.” explained MEP David Casa, member of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliamentary Committee.
In its latest move, the Turkish government restricted access to Twitter hours. This was backed up Turkey´s telecommunications watchdog, BTK. Furthermore, Turkish Prime minister Tayyip Erdogan has promised to wipe out Twitter services, which he claims has been an important tool used by his political enemies.
David Casa, the PN's Head of Delegation in the European Parliament, has been part of the EU-Turkey Joint Parliament Committee since 2004 and has been increasingly critical of developments in the country.
