Casa congratulates new EPP Group candidate Tajani

MEP Antonio Tajani has been confirmed EPP Group’s candidate for the election of President of the European Parliament that will take place in January 2017. MEP Tajani won the EPP Group’s internal election and MEP David Casa warmly welcomed this result on behalf of the PN Delegation.

“I am confident that Antonio Tajani’s experience and hard work within the European Parliament as well as his competence to take on the position of President are unparalleled. Tajani has won our full support in the EPP Group. We stand behind him and join him in his endeavours to make the EU work for millions of EU citizens,” said Mr Casa, the Head of the PN Delegation.

Antonio Tajani (63) has been a Member of the European Parliament since 1994. He was Vice-President of the European Commission from 2008 until 2014, first as Commissioner for Transport (2008-10), then as Commissioner for Industry and Entrepreneurship (2010-14). He became the First Vice-President of the European Parliament in 2014 and has been Vice-President of the European People's Party since 2002.

Vice President Tajani stated: “I am a candidate who will work for consensus in the European Parliament, which will be crucial in bringing the institution closer to European citizens’. He noted that he is currently the first Vice President of the European Parliament and that his election to this role is clear testament to his ability to build bridges across the European Parliament.
