In a vote in the European Parliament’s Legal Affairs Committee, MEPs have backed new EU copyright rules that are better adapted to the digital world.

The Parliament’s Rapporteur on this legislation, Axel Voss, explained two key aspects of his proposals: 1) that digital platforms dealing with copyright-protected works should be included and, for example, online encyclopaedias should not be, and 2) that publishers and platforms need to agree on fair remuneration for creative works.

The EPP Group endorses copyright reform that protects press freedom.
