Large majority votes for less bureaucracy and more competitiveness

The European Parliament today voted by a large majority to simplify rules and reduce costs for businesses, thereby approving the outcome of the Omnibus I negotiations led by the EPP Group.

"With today’s vote on the Omnibus I package, backed by a broad majority, the Parliament has sent a clear message that it stands with European citizens, European job creators and Europe’s competitiveness,” emphasised Jörgen Warborn MEP, the Parliament’s lead negotiator on the Omnibus I package.

Among the updates to the new rules, the approved amendments ensure that only the largest companies are subject to reporting and shift the focus to real and concrete harms instead of hypothetical risks, significantly reducing paperwork and administrative burden. Subsidiaries covered by group reporting will no longer need to report separately, helping to avoid duplication and unnecessary costs.

“While there is still work to be done, this is an important first step towards a stronger and more prosperous Europe,” said Warborn.

European businesses have repeatedly called for less red tape and unnecessary complexity. The EPP Group has listened to these concerns and remains fully committed to delivering on its promises.
