Commission work programme 2026: Compete. Protect. Deliver.
The EPP Group supports the European Commission in its efforts to make Europe stronger, more competitive, secure, and independent. "We welcome the Commission’s 2026 Work Programme. Competitiveness and security are our key priorities, and we see that reflected", says EPP Group Vice-President Jeroen Lenaers MEP.
"Competitiveness must come first. Our companies, especially SMEs, need breathing space to innovate and grow. Simplification and reducing bureaucracy must go hand in hand with investment and a positive competitiveness agenda. We need to unleash at last the full potential of the single market. We welcome steps like the 28th regime, GDPR simplification, and completing the Banking and Savings and Investment Union, alongside support for industry, lower energy costs, and stronger backing for farmers”, Lenaers stresses.
“Internal and external security is the other top priority. I am glad that the drone defence initiative is included. Flagship proposals like an EU drone wall must be developed swiftly. We also back giving Europol and Frontex better resources, better data access, and better operational capabilities”, Lenaers explains.
“Above all, we must fiercely protect our children - also online. The online world can be a dangerous place for them. That is why our EPP Group initiatives to combat cyberbullying and safeguard minors online are not just policies - they are the solemn promise to create a safe digital environment where every child can grow, learn, and thrive without fear. We are glad the Commission has heard our calls", Lenaers emphasises.
