EPP Group delivers on pledge to reverse combustion engine ban
The EPP Group has secured a major victory for Europe’s car industry. Led by the EPP Group and backed by a broad centrist majority, today’s vote in the European Parliament’s Environment Committee backs reversing the combustion engine ban.
"We fought against the combustion engine ban from the very beginning, and today we have secured the majority to deliver. The EPP Group managed to bring Europe’s political centre together behind a clear objective: backing our car industry, protecting European jobs and giving manufacturers the freedom to develop the best technologies," said Massimiliano Salini MEP, the European Parliament’s lead negotiator on the law.
"Europe’s carmakers need certainty to invest and a level playing field to remain competitive. This agreement puts European carmakers back in the driving seat, giving them the freedom to cut emissions through innovation, not political dogma. It also creates new incentives to use low-carbon steel made in Europe, strengthening European production and innovation. Climate ambition must be a driver of technological progress rather than a barrier," Salini added.
