Special Committee on the COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned and recommendations for the future

For more than 2 years, the EU has faced a public health threat. Drawing on lessons from the COVID-19 pandemic, the EPP Group wants more health powers for the EU and its Member States to be better prepared in the future for the next emergencies to come.

The Special Committee on the “COVID-19 pandemic: lessons learned and recommendations for the future” will look into the European response to the pandemic in the areas of health, democracy and fundamental rights, economy and society, and the EU’s global relationships.

More than ever, it is necessary for the EU to show its ability to act and draw the right conclusions from the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic. We must jointly strengthen our preparedness and resilience for the benefit of all.

The COVID-19 Committee has been granted an initial mandate of 12 months, starting in April 2022.
