“Malta is better than those who assassinated Daphne Caruana Galizia and those who did everything to cover up for the criminals,” declared MEPs, Roberta Metsola and David Casa during a plenary debate on the assassination of Daphne Caruana Galizia and the rule of law in Malta.

The PN MEPs called for all those who were involved, all those who tried to cover it up and all those politicians linked to criminality to be held to account. “That is what is needed before our country can come to terms with what has happened. We will not stop in our fight for justice,” said the PN MEPs.

The PN MEPs called on the Labour Maltese government and its MEPs to stop turning this issue into a partisan one. “The vast majority of the Maltese and Gozitan people are honest, decent and hard-working citizens. The corrupt and unscrupulous few, running this government, do not represent the vast majority of the Maltese people.

Sweeping this issue under the carpet is exactly what they want us to do. Labour’s MEPs want us to stop. But this is not about us, this is about justice.  We need an end to impunity and we need to seek justice for the stories Daphne Caruana Galizia was killed for.

This means, strengthening our national and European systems and giving Europol more authority on cross-border sharing of evidence and the mandate to initiate investigations in these cases. It means, it is time to finally have a European Anti-SLAPP directive to protect journalists.

For when justice is served, could we begin the healing process and the Maltese know this. They need this. They want this. And they deserve this. Stop treating them with contmept,” Metsola and Casa said.
