Casa: European Parliament remains a bastion of democracy

David Casa MEP has made his first courtesy call on the European Parliament President David Sassoli, since he was elected Quaestor of the European Parliament.

"With the rise of populism across the European continent and with authoritarianism rising its ugly head in a number of EU countries, the European Parliament remains a bastion of democracy, human rights and the rule of law. We must not be complacent. Let's listen more and more to people's needs but also let's defend the values on which the European Union is built," said David Casa shortly after the meeting.

The meeting focused on David Casa's work within the European Parliament Bureau, the challenges facing the European Union as well as areas of shared interest such as media freedom and the protection of journalists.

The European Parliament Bureau is one of the highest bodies of the European Parliament and it is the body that lays down rules for Parliament. The Bureau consists of the President of the European Parliament, the Vice-Presidents and the Quaestors who are elected by the MEPS. It decides all administrative, organisational and financial matters.

EP President Sassoli thanked Mr Casa for his work as Quaestor as well as an active Member of the European Parliament. Despite hailing from different political groups, both agreed to work together in defence of their shared values.
