Thanks to the efforts of Jacek Protasiewicz, the Foreign Affairs committee proposed today to increase the ceiling for the EIB financing operations in third countries, in particular with benefit to Eastern Partnership countries whose envelope would be increased by 800 mln euros, 12 % more than foreseen in the initial proposal of the European Commission.

"I believe that we have to invest in the development of our Eastern neighbours and we have to make it possible for them to enjoy our financial support contributing to their multifaceted growth. Especially before the Eastern Partnership summit we have to send them a clear political signal proving our intentions to support them by all means. However, we have to make sure that such an increase is a balanced one and not at the expense of other financial instruments, like grants or aid and we managed to successfully secure this in our opinion".
