A step closer for Maltese Youtubers to be paid for content generated online

"Today’s launch of the specific YouTube webpage for Malta - www.youtube.com.mt - is an important step for Maltese YouTubers, content creators and users. This is because not only will it make local content online more easily accessible for users but it will be further promoting content of local creators including several artists. It is also another step closer for Maltese YouTubers to be compensated financially for content generated online.”
Francis Zammit Dimech made these remarks after YouTube announced the launch of a country specific version and local domain for Malta, available in English at youtube.com.mt. YouTube also announced that it will expand its YouTube Partnership Programme (YPP) to Malta later on this year enabling creators to earn money from their videos and have access to a wide range of tools and resources to make the most of their content on YouTube.
Zammit Dimech added that YouTube is a very important platform especially for young artists who want to get out there and share their talent. Thus these steps will continue to support local artists as it will give them a bigger audience and financial support.
Last March Zammit Dimech organised a training session for the Maltese YouTube community and invited YouTube experts to share their expertise with various Maltese and Gozitan content creators to get to know more on how to strengthen their voice online through a number of workshops targeting different levels of expertise. Zammit Dimech has also been supporting the Maltese YouTube Community pushing for financial compensation for content they generated and share on YouTube.
Zammit Dimech also thanked PN’s Spokesperson for Culture and Media Therese Comodini Cachia who has also worked for this to materialise, including during her stint as MEP in the light of her responsibility in leading the Copyright Reform.
