“We have finally started negotiating to close the loopholes that corrupt politicians abuse to benefit from corruption.”
The Head of the Nationalist Party’s Delegation to the European Parliament, MEP David Casa, spoke after a trilogue meeting between the institutions of the European Union on a new directive combatting corruption. Casa is one of the European Parliament’s negotiators.
“If you are a clean politician, you have nothing to fear from this Directive. That was my message.”
“This is a Directive targeting the corrupt and those politicians who want to defend them,” stated Casa.
As negotiations intensify, Members of the European Parliament are continuing to push for a robust and ambitious directive that strengthens the EU’s toolkit against corruption. Casa emphasised the urgency and importance of this legislation in the wake of recent scandals and growing public demand for accountability.
David Casa stressed the Parliament’s commitment toward having an effective law that takes closes loopholes enabling impunity.
"No more impunity. We continue this guarantee to eliminate impunity in the member states, to eliminate the organisation of politics, which is ultimately theft from the people."
During the trilogue, the Parliament defended its position for clear rules on the criminalisation of corruption offences, harmonised penalties, and stronger preventive measures.
"We must do everything we can to ensure that European citizens are free from corruption."
