MEP and PN Head of National Delegation David Casa commanded the podium to deliver a scathing challenge to the Group of European Socialists for their blind defence of the embattled Socialist Party in Spain whose government is embroiled in scandals relating to corruption and abuse of power.

“I had a prepared speech. But I’m changing it,” Casa began, during a debate on the situation of the rule of law in Spain.

Casa reminded the European Socialists of their track record defending Joseph Muscat, whom he described as “one of the most corrupt politicians we’ve ever had.”

“Back then, Muscat also apologised,” Casa recalled, acknowledging Prime Minister Sanchez’s apology for corruption in his ranks. “But the Maltese took to the streets. The Maltese succeeded in ousting him. And today, he is no longer Prime Minister.

“Sanchez is on the same road,” Casa warned.

“Corruption is theft and corruption kills. It killed Daphne Caruana Galizia and yet you came to this chamber and continued to blindly defend one of the most corrupt prime ministers in our history on whose watch a journalist was assassinated for investigating corruption.

“You should be ashamed,” Casa rallied.

The MEP slammed the Socialists for letting Spanish voters down, declaring his support for protestors and urging them to continue demonstrating against corrupt politicians.

“Go out and protest,” Casa urged. “With your protests, Sanchez will have to resign.

“His place is not in government. His place is facing justice,” Casa concluded to applause.
