Strasbourg. "I am very honoured by the trust placed in me and look forward to this new challenge. As the Vice-Coordinator of the Committee on Budgetary Control, I will set political priorities together with my colleagues from the EPP Group. I will stand up for our EPP Group line inside and outside the European Parliament", says Angelika Winzig, Head of the Austrian EPP Group delegation, on her election as Vice-Coordinator and thus Deputy Spokesperson of the EPP Group in the Committee on Budgetary Control (CONT) in the European Parliament.

My priority is the careful and responsible use of EU citizens' tax money.
Angelika Winzig MEP

"The Committee on Budgetary Control is responsible for monitoring the finances of the European Union. Its main task is to ensure that EU spending is legal, efficient and transparent. My priority is the careful and responsible use of EU citizens' tax money. That is why I have committed myself to becoming a member of this committee, and I am all the more pleased to be able to contribute an even greater role now", Winzig continues.

"One thing must be clear: There is no place for fraud in our Union. The Committee on Budgetary Control plays an important role in uncovering fraud, corruption and other financial irregularities within the EU. I will continue my work towards these important goals, now in the role of Vice-Coordinator and Deputy EPP Spokesperson," concludes Winzig.

The CONT Committee has 30 members from 16 Member States and all political groups. Its responsibility is to review the EU budget and monitor the handling of financial resources, in various policy areas such as agriculture, regional development, research and education, as well as the use of EU funds by other EU institutions and organisations, including executive agencies.
