EPP Group expects Polish Government to deal with Venice Commission concerns
Manfred Weber, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, made the following statement after the adoption of the opinion of the Venice Commission on Amendments to the Act on the Constitutional Tribunal of Poland:
"The opinion with the evaluation by the independent Venice Commission, but also by the Polish Constitutional Court, are of significant importance to us. The facts speak for themselves: in Poland, due to the recent legislative changes there appear to be problems with the rule of law. We expect that the Polish Government will truly deal with the opinion and take the expressed concerns seriously.
The EU which is based on values and the rule of law must not look away. We ask from the European Commission an immediate assessment and response, and from the Polish Government to comply with the recommendations of the Venice Commission."
