The Week ahead
The EPP Group wants Europe to strengthen its cyber resilience and protect critical infrastructure and essential supply chains from cyber-attacks. On Wednesday, 11 November, Parliament will debate how to improve Europe's cyber defences. Recent attacks on supermarket chains across Europe have shown how a cyber-attack can disrupt everyday life and threaten our essential supplies. "Cybersecurity is no longer just a technical issue. It is about protecting people's everyday lives, our economy and Europe's security. Europe must be better prepared to prevent attacks and respond when they happen,” says Tomas Tobé MEP, EPP Group vice-chair and lead negotiator on the Cybersecurity Act 2.

The EPP Group wants to ensure that everyone has fair access to cancer screening and treatment across the EU, regardless of where they live. Ahead of Thursday’s European Parliament vote on a review of Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan, the Group is calling for political commitments to deliver real improvements for patients. "Cancer knows no borders, and neither should our fight against it. Every European deserves access to early diagnosis, effective treatment and the latest medical innovations, regardless of where they live. We must close the gaps in cancer care across Member States and turn Europe’s Beating Cancer Plan into tangible improvements for patients and their families. Fighting cancer is not just a health priority. It is a European responsibility," said Bartosz Arłukowicz MEP, the EPP Group’s lead negotiator on the file.

The EPP Group wants to ensure that technological innovation boosts competitiveness and growth without compromising consumer protection. On Wednesday, the European Commission will present its Consumer Package, including the Digital Fairness Act and the Consumer Enforcement Initiative. "Technological advances offer major opportunities for competitiveness, growth and innovation, but must not come at the expense of consumers. The Digital Fairness Act must make the EU’s digital rulebook work better, not make it bigger. Instead of adding new obligations, it should bring coherence to fragmented rules, clarity to overlapping requirements and simplicity to complex legislation," says Pablo Arias Echeverría MEP, the EPP Group spokesman in the Internal Market and Consumer Protection Committee.
