“Europe is united. The whole of Europe stands side by side with the people of France”, said Manfred Weber, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, and Alain Lamassoure MEP, Head of the French Delegation of the EPP Group, on Sunday 11 January, commenting on the ‘Je suis Charlie’ solidarity march which is taking place today in Paris.

“Once more, like previously in London, Madrid, Toulouse and Brussels, fanaticism has targeted European values: freedom of speech, freedom of religion, human dignity, tolerance, respect for all differences, but also peace as both a goal and a means to find a solution to conflicts. This is why Europe, which is united in diversity, is also united in adversity”, they said.

“In the coming weeks, we will have to think together about the conclusions that should be drawn from these attacks. But today is a day of mourning and commemoration. Europe’s heart is beating together with France’s heart. Terror will never succeed”, they said.
