"The EU Summit shows that the Heads of State and Government agree on the main lines of EU migration policy: strengthening the protection of our borders, adapting Frontex towards a true EU border guard, putting hot spots in place, implementing the distribution mechanism of refugees, and sending illegal migrants back to their countries. This is why it is even more difficult to understand why EU Member States are not delivering sufficiently. Governments must act faster in the implementation of their decisions. We are seeing too few results. There have been enough discussions - it is now time to deliver", said Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament, reacting to the results of the European Council.

"For example, the EPP Group is ready to act fast and put the new legislation on the Frontex adaptation to an EU border guard on track within a few months. Some EU Member States are again putting the brakes on here. The reason why we are moving so slowly is the lack of willingness in some Member States. But solutions must be found fast!

As regards the position of the United Kingdom within the EU, there are a number of topics where our view is very close to that of the British Government. For example, it is clear that the misuse of social aid should be fought more actively. But we are not ready to touch the principle of free movement within the EU. The EPP Group will continue the discussions with the British Government in the upcoming months", said Manfred Weber.
