The European Parliament debated the State of the Union speech by Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, with a call by EPP Group Chairman Manfred Weber to stop cheap populist rhetoric and act to improve the lives of Europeans. MEPs turned up pressure on the Polish government to scrap anti-democratic policies, they debated the EU’s troubled relations with Turkey and sought further information on how the EU failed to uncover the VW emissions scandal for years.
