The EPP Group strongly welcomes Commission President Ursula von der Leyen’s proposal to unlock up to €45 billion in additional support for European farmers, putting agriculture back at the top of the EU agenda.

“This is an EPP victory. The Commission's move comes after our persistent political pressure. For months, we have demanded that European farmers must not face new challenges alone. This announcement shows that the EPP delivers: agriculture is back at the centre of EU policymaking, where it belongs,” says Herbert Dorfmann MEP, the EPP Group’s spokesman for Agriculture and Rural Development.

The EPP Group has consistently argued for stronger and fairer financial backing for farmers, particularly in the context of international trade agreements such as the Mercosur Agreement.

"Unlocking funding now is a pragmatic and responsible decision that helps ensure farmers are not left carrying disproportionate burdens," Dorfmann added.

The EPP Group now calls on Member States to swiftly find an agreement on the long-term MFF proposal, so that this political commitment can be translated into tangible reassurance for farmers across Europe.
