Europe stands at a digital crossroads. The choices made today will determine whether the continent secures its technological sovereignty - or lets others shape its values, standards, and future.

“Europe must lead the next wave of digital innovation, not follow others,” stressed Dolors Montserrat MEP, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group, ahead of today’s high-level European Digital Summit organised by the Group.

The summit will bring together policymakers, businesses, and stakeholders to discuss how to unlock the potential of critical digital technologies, strengthen data sovereignty as a pillar of Europe’s competitiveness, and amplify Europe’s voice in global AI and cloud governance.

“We need a real digital single market, smarter investment, and less red tape so our entrepreneurs can grow and compete globally. From Artificial Intelligence to data and automation, digital tools can make our economy stronger and more resilient,” Montserrat continued.

“The EPP Group wants Europe not only to adapt to the digital age, but to shape it - and to lead it,” emphasized Tomas Tobé MEP, Vice-Chair of the EPP Group.

Putting these words into action, the Group last week published its Digital Policy Paper, setting out a clear vision for Europe’s digital future: building a European data and cloud infrastructure, investing in key technologies such as AI, semiconductors, and cybersecurity, and modernising the EU’s legal framework.

The EPP Group also wants to prioritise youth mental health in the digital space by addressing harmful social media effects and strengthening parental control online.
