EPP drives simplification for EU businesses
To provide legal certainty for companies operating across borders, prevent a patchwork of national rules, and cut administrative costs, the Legal Affairs Committee has today backed a set of legal proposals drafted by Jörgen Warborn MEP, Parliament’s lead negotiator of the so-called Sustainability Omnibus.
The draft legislation aims to simplify procedures, avoid unnecessary complexity, reduce duplication and confusion in reporting, save time, and ensure consistent data - all to make it easier for European businesses to thrive.
“The EPP’s goal has always been to simplify rules and cut costs for businesses - and even go further than the initial Commission proposal. Our vote today will create more predictability for our businesses in an unpredictable world,” says Warborn.
Reporting requirements are vital for transparency, sustainability, and accountability, but they must also be efficient, balanced, and focused. The regulatory burden has grown far too heavy, especially for small and medium-sized enterprises.
“We have listened to businesses across Europe and engaged extensively with stakeholders and policymakers to take this much-needed step forward for European companies,” emphasises Warborn.
The EPP Group has always stood up for Europe’s businesses - the backbone of our European Union. Earlier this year, we took concrete action by introducing the Stop-the-Clock measure in February, which allows companies to pause the collection of reporting data that we aim to eliminate by year’s end. We will keep our promise and continue delivering on our commitment to cut red tape and support growth.
Following today’s JURI committee meeting, at 18:15, a press conference will be held on today’s vote. Rapporteur Jörgen Warborn MEP will be available to explain all aspects of the proposal and answer questions from the press.
