E-Call: cars as life savers
In the European Union, almost 28,000 people lost their lives in road accidents in 2012. The EU now wants to make a high-tech contribution to reducing the number of deaths and serious injuries on the roads. The electronic emergency call system E-Call will enable vehicles in future to alert the police and fire service automatically in the event of an accident. The EPP traffic expert and vice chairman of the transport committee Dieter Liebrecht-Koch explains how the system works.
