BIO

Jarosław Duda (born on 29 April 1964, in Wrocław) is a Polish politician and sociologist.

After graduating from the Catholic University of Lublin in Poland, he completed post-graduate studies at the Centre for Social Services, in Warsaw, in 1995. As a student, he was a founding member of the non-governmental organisation Faith and Light, based on the French movement, also known as the Moomin Community.

In 1991, he worked as a teacher and tutor in Lotnicze Zaklady Naukowe and from 1997 to 2002, he held a position as a lecturer at the Post-Secondary School for Social Workers.

In 1995, he served as an expert in the Ministry of Labour and Social Policy. He was a member of the task force in charge of creating the parametric method of allocating funds for social assistance on a national level, based on a system of objective criteria.

In 1997, he served as a Plenipotentiary of the Wroclaw Voivode for social assistance to flood victims. In 1999, he chaired the Department of Social Affairs and Health Care at the Lower Silesian Voivodship Office.

From 1997 to 2002, he worked as an expert of the Banking Foundation Leopold Kronenberg Bank Handlowy in Warsaw, Poland.

In 1998, he was elected to the Lower Silesian Regional Assembly. From 2002 to 2004, he held the positions of Vice-Chairman of the Assembly and Chairman of the Social Policy and Family Committee serving simultaneously as the Deputy President of the Management Board of the State Fund for the Rehabilitation of the Disabled in Warsaw (1999-2001) and Director of the Municipal Board of Social Welfare Homes in Wrocław (2001-2004).

From 2004 to 2019, he was a Member of the Polish Parliament during its 4th and 5th term (Member of the Social and Family Policy Committee, Health Committee, Vice-Chairman of the Social Policy Committee) and as Senator during the 7th and 8th term (National Defence Committee, Social Policy and Family Committee, and Health Committee).

Between 2007 and 2015, he served as a Deputy Minister of Labour and Social Policy and the Government Plenipotentiary for People with Disabilities. He co-Chaired the Public Benefit Activity Council and was the national coordinator of the Programme for Counteracting Violence.

Since May 2019, he has been a Member of the European Parliament and is a Member of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs and is a Substitute Member of the Committee on Petitions. Furthermore, he is a Member of the Delegation to the Euronest Parliamentary Assembly, the Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Association Committee and the Delegation to the EU-Montenegro Stabilisation and Association Parliamentary Committee. He is a Member of the Group of the European People's Party (EPP Group), the largest political force in the European Parliament.
