Konrad Mizzi has no shame

“At a time when the European Union is increasingly beeing perceived as cut off from its citizens, this complete disregard for the anger of the Maltese people is extremely disconcerting.”
The Head of the PN Delegation David Casa MEP made these remarks following a press conference that was held between Konrad Mizzi, the minister revealed by the Panama Papers to have set up complex offshore structures typically used in cases of corruption and money laundering and European Commission Vice-President Maroš Šefčovič.
“Konrad Mizzi, for all we know, still owns a Panama company. All the projects in which he has been involved are tainted with strong suspicions of corruption and money laundering. That a member of the EU Commission would legitimise this man demonstrates a detachment from reality that is the Achilles heel of this European Commission.”
Mizzi gave instructions to open a panama company concealed within a New Zealand trust soon after taking office in 2013. He then attempted to open a bank account for the Panama company with no less than 8 banks around the world finally giving the go-ahead to open an account that would require deposits totalling one million USD over the course of a year while on a ministerial salary of EUR 50, 000.
