“Ukraine’s place is in the European Union. We support the aspirations of the people of Ukraine and call for sanctions targeting those responsible for the atrocities that have taken place in recent days”, stated PN Head of Delegation David Casa and Astrid Lulling longest serving MEP and European Parliament Quaestor.

David Casa and Astrid Lulling are at a meeting of the EPP Bureau in neighbouring Poland where the situation in Ukraine is being discussed.

“I am alarmed by the rapidly deteriorating situation in Ukraine. The killing of innocent people is completely unacceptable”, claimed Astrid Lulling.

Reports from the country indicate rising unrest with news of a possible split of the country into pro-EU and pro-Russian parts.

Ukrainian representatives of the Ukrainian opposition party informed MEPs about the state of affairs in the country. MEP David Casa said:

“We have attempted to influence a peaceful outcome in Ukraine through diplomatic channels.  We have failed. It is time for more concrete measures including immediate sanctions targeting members of the Ukrainian administration”.
