“Twenty-five people were killed in Ukraine yesterday. The state of affairs in this country has now become unacceptable. The EU's efforts in helping to resolve this crisis have not yielded results. It is now time for drastic action. I expect targeted sanctions against those responsible for violence and the use of excessive force. I call on EU governments to agree on this immediately," stated David Casa, PN head in the European Parliament.

The situation in Ukraine was discussed today during a meeting of the EPP group at the European Parliament in Brussels. Tomorrow afternoon, the EU foreign ministers are going to meet to discuss these sanctions.

Reportedly, on Tuesday 18th April, 25 people were killed in Kiev. Assaults persisted during the night and early hours on Wednesday. The unrest also dispersed to other western cities. This violence is considered to be the worst since protests burst out in November of last year.

“I am shocked by the developments in Ukraine. I would like to show solidarity with the Ukrainian people, as I have always done. I also give my full support to EPP President Joseph Daul who has taken a firm stand calling for an end to violence in Ukraine,” concluded MEP David Casa.
