The EU, together with the private sector, should help the developing world shift to a digital economy, said participants at a European Parliament hearing. Bogdan Wenta, the EPP Group’s Spokesman in the Development Committee, said the growing use of mobile phones makes Africa and Latin America ripe for digital transformation. The European Commissioner for Digital Economy and Society, Mariya Gabriel, noted that the latest initiatives include a start-up effort agreed on at the EU-African Union summit in Abidjan last November.
