Environment Committee backs stronger EU disaster relief

The European Parliament’s Environment Committee has approved draft legislation to step up EU disaster relief. Authored by the EPP Group’s Elisabetta Giardini, it would update a voluntary system with better resources on demand for disasters including those that result from extreme weather due to climate change. A public survey shows most Europeans believe their country cannot handle all major disasters alone.
