Connecting Europe: stepping up the EU's green and digital transition

The European Parliament has approved a plan to spend 33 billion euros to build and integrate Europe's transport, energy and digital sectors, a plan helping to drive Europe's green transition and job creation, says the EPP Group's Marian Marinescu of Romania. Called the Connecting Europe Facility, it will boost rail interoperability, he says. The EPP Group's Finnish MEP Henna Virkkunen says the spending will give a strong push for the digital and green transitions, including cross-border renewable energy. She and Mr. Marinescu agree the funding should have been much more – the European Commission had proposed 50 billion euros - but they hope EU governments will use a lot of their EU post-pandemic recovery funding for those purposes as well.
