Ukraine: Andrej Plenković to head EP delegation to observe elections
Today, the European Parliament (EP) constituted its election observation delegation to Ukraine. The delegation will be led by Andrej Plenković MEP, Chairman of the EP’s Delegation to the EU-Ukraine Parliamentary Cooperation Committee.
The Delegation will start its activities on the morning of 24 October and finish its work after the joint press conference in the afternoon of 27 October.
The EP delegation will be composed of 15 MEPs and will be integrated, as usual, in an International Election Observation Mission led by the long-term expert mission of the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights (OSCE/ODIHR). The EP observers will visit seven cities in Ukraine - Kiev, Chernihiv, Cherkasy, Lviv, Odessa, Kharkiv and Dnjepropetrovsk.
"The forthcoming parliamentary elections in Ukraine are important for the consolidation of democracy in Ukraine, especially since in some regions they are held in very demanding circumstances. The European Parliament election observation delegation, together with other international partners, has an important role in observing that the elections are conducted in a free and fair manner", concluded Plenković.
