Oettinger in favour of a digital revolution
Creating a Single Market for Telecoms by 2015 and no more roaming charges by 2016 are the key EPP Group priorities for the digital economy.
"The biggest challenge facing the digital market is fragmentation. When creating the Single Market for energy, Oettinger showed unprecedented perseverance. We can expect the same dynamism put into creating a single EU digital market. It is an important job. Digital services and telecoms are crucial drivers for growth and highly-qualified jobs,” said Krišjānis Kariņš MEP, EPP Group Coordinator in the Industry, Research and Energy Committee, reacting to the performance at the European Parliament hearing of the German Commissioner-Designate Günther Oettinger.
“Günther Oettinger was thoroughly prepared, to the point and showed outstanding commitment. I’m confident he is the one who will put the EU at the frontline of the digital revolution,” said Kariņš.
The political group Coordinators in the Committees on Industry, Research and Energy, and Education and Culture will meet in camera tomorrow at 6pm to draft a letter which will evaluate the performance of Commissioner-Designate Oettinger.
