"The EPP Group and myself wholeheartedly congratulate Janez Janša and all the EPP sister parties in Slovenia for working together and managing to form a government, against all odds", said Joseph Daul MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament.

A centre-right coalition has been composed in Slovenia, following early elections in December, when the proposed candidate for Prime Minister, Zoran Janković, was not able to form a governing coalition and failed to gain support in the Slovenian Parliament.

"This is very welcome news from Slovenia, with the centre-right coalition taking a clear pro-European position and aiming first and foremost at bringing Slovenia out of the crisis that has worsened over the past years of the socialist-led government", explained Daul.

The EPP Group looks forward to welcoming Janez Janša in Brussels as the 17th Head of State from the EPP political family in the EU.

On the challenges ahead, Mr Daul said: "I am confident that the SDS, the NSi, and the SLS together with their partners will be able to get Slovenia back on the path of growth and prosperity. The reforms that Slovenia needs to carry out will not be easy, but I am sure all Slovenians recognise the urgency and long-term benefits the reforms will bring."
