Fight against organised crime, corruption, money laundering: Cooperation between police and judicial authorities is key.
During the Justice and Home Affairs Council meeting in Luxembourg, Véronique Mathieu MEP and Salvatore Iacolino MEP presented the Ministers with the EPP Group's priorities and activities in the newly-created Special Committee against Organised Crime, Corruption and Money laundering (CRIM) in the European Parliament. The MEPs urged the police and judicial authorities to cooperate more, not just within the EU but also with third countries' authorities. "This cooperation is fundamental when it comes to combating mafias, trafficking in human beings, money laundering, corruption, confiscation of criminal assets, cybercrime and tracing illegal financial flows", the MEPs stressed. In this period of economic crisis, the EPP Group is strongly committed to defending a lawful economy and the security of citizens. It firmly believes in the added value of the EU in the fight against organised crime, corruption and money laundering. Salvatore Iacolino MEP is Rapporteur in this Committee and Veronique Mathieu MEP is the EPP Group's Coordinator.
