EPP members of national parliaments will meet in Brussels on Monday 13 October to debate European Policy with MEPs. The members will be welcomed by Esther de Lange MEP, Vice-Chairwoman of the EPP Group responsible for Relations with National Parliaments.

"Working together at all levels is important for our common goals. It is not Brussels telling the national level what to do, or otherwise: we need each other to make progress in Europe", Esther de Lange stated. "The EPP is setting a great example here."

In the new European Commission, subsidiarity has become one of the responsibilities of its Vice-President-designate Frans Timmermans. The EPP Group already has a network with national parliaments up and running, and has been holding meetings for a long time.

The politicians will discuss current political issues, the European elections and democratic legitimacy. The guest speaker is Francis Delpérée MP, member of the Belgian Chamber, Doctor of Law of the Catholic University of Louvain (UCL), Professor Emeritus of Constitutional Law, Belgium.

Among the participants are:

  • Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament
  • Danuta Hübner MEP, Chairwoman of the Constitutional Affairs Committee
  • Hans-Peter Friedrich MP, Deputy Chairman of the CDU-CSU Group responsible for European Policy, European Coordination and Parliamentary Cooperation in Europe, German Bundestag, Germany
  • Paolo Tancredi MP, Vice-Chairman of the Committee on European Union Policy, Italy
  • Antonio Rodrigues MP, Vice-Chairman of the PSD parliamentary group, Portugal
  • Jean Bizet MP, Vice-Chairman of the Committee on European Affairs, French Senate
  • Nicos Tornaritis MP, Chairman of the Democratic Rally Parliamentary Group, Cyprus
  • Elena Centemero MP, EPP member of the Council of Europe, Italy
  • Raymond Knops MP, Chairman, European Affairs Committee, Dutch House of Representatives
