The EPP Group will gather more than 600 participants in the hemicycle of the European Parliament on Tuesday. Under the title 'European farmers' deal: EPP vision for agriculture in Europe', MEPs and farmers will debate the future of European farming. "As the EPP is the voice and defender of European farmers, this event provides an excellent opportunity to discuss the enormous challenges that our farmers are facing", underlines Manfred Weber MEP, Chairman of the EPP Group. Journalists are also invited to a press conference starting at 14.00 hrs on Tuesday in the Anna Politkovskaya Room PHS 050 with the Group Chairman, Group Vice-Chair Siegfried Mureşan MEP, Agriculture Committee Chair Norbert Lins MEP and the EPP Group Spokesman in the Agriculture Committee Herbert Dorfmann MEP.

The EPP Group nominates Jini Mahsa Amini and the women of Iran for the Sakharov Prize. On Wednesday afternoon, the political Groups in the European Parliament will present their nominations for the award in a joint meeting of the Foreign Affairs, Human Rights and Development Committees. “Mahsa Amini and the women of Iran deserve to win the 2023 Sakharov Prize as they have inspired women all around the world. The fight for women, life and freedom continues. Let’s dare to follow Mahsa Amini’s lead”, says David Lega MEP, EPP Group Spokesman on Iran who nominated her. Amini was brutally murdered by the Iranian regime a year ago because she dared not to wear her headscarf 'properly'.

Parliament's Budgets Committee is set to declare that the Commission's €65.8 billion proposal to boost the EU's long-term budget is "insufficient". MEPs will vote on the committee's position on the proposal for a revision of the Multiannual Financial Framework on Wednesday morning, ahead of a plenary vote in October. "Multiple consecutive crises have eaten up the margins and flexibilities of the budget. It is simply not capable of delivering on the Union’s priorities. Unfortunately, the current Commission proposal for a revision is not enough to fix these shortcomings. Greater ambition is needed. If we have learned anything over the past few years, it is the importance of having adequate budgetary resources in case of unforeseen crises", warns Jan Olbrycht MEP.
