The EPP Group supports the full unfreezing of EU funds for Hungary once all the necessary conditions have been met.

“The EPP Group wants all funds destined for the Hungarian people to reach the Hungarian people. The EPP Group supports the efforts of the new Hungarian government and the TISZA Party to repair the damage caused by Viktor Orbán to the rule of law and to Hungary's credibility within the European Union,” said Siegfried Mureșan MEP, EPP Vice-Chair ahead of today’s debate on the subject in the Budgets Committee and Committee on Budgetary control of the European Parliament.

“Once the conditions are met, all EU funds for Hungary - not only recovery funds, but also cohesion funds - should be released without delay. This money belongs to the Hungarian people,” Mureșan added.

“The first 50 days of the TISZA government have shown that we are delivering on our promises: we are restoring the rule of law in Hungary and building a system full of safeguards where such a level of misuse of public assets can never happen again,” stresses Kinga Kollár MEP, from Hungary’s Tisza Party.

Hungary and the European Commission have already reached an agreement paving the way for the country to regain access to €16.4bn in EU funds that had been frozen under the previous government.

On 10 July, EU Member States approved Hungary’s new recovery and resilience plan (RRP). The plan should allow €10 billion - approximately €6.5 billion in grants and €3.5 billion in loans - to be disbursed to Hungary.
