On the eve of the International Day of Persons with Disabilities (3 December), the EPP Group has called for the rapid implementation of the European Accessibility Act presented today by the European Commission. This is a milestone legislation that will facilitate access to services, infrastructure and products for people with disabilities.

The EPP Group has been always engaged in the promotion of the rights of disabled people, with Ádám Kósa MEP leading the European Parliament's Disability Intergroup for the last six years: "With the International Day of Persons with Disabilities coming up, the presentation of the European Accessibility Act is an important message for 80 million disabled citizens. By facilitating their inclusion in education and employment through accessible digital devices and services, we will create an e-inclusive society where independent living will finally become reality. Europe can tap into valuable human resources. With new digital solutions, accessibility can become easier and cheaper to achieve in a wide range of areas", stressed Kósa.

The Hungarian MEP is pleased to finally see this proposal tabled: "On behalf of the EPP Group, I have urged the Commission to come forward with the European Accessibility Act on several occasions. The Commissioner for Employment, Social Affairs and Labour Mobility, Marianne Thyssen, has delivered on this in one year. The EPP Group will work to ensure that the European Accessibility Act makes accessibility a reality to the largest degree possible", concluded Kósa.
