What do we offer?

The EPP Group’s traineeship programme offers an excellent opportunity for university graduates and undergraduate students to gain experience and practical knowledge of working in an international, multilingual and multicultural environment of the EPP Group and the European Parliament.

We offer the following types of 5-month full-time (40 hrs/week) paid traineeships for graduates in our Digital Communication Unit in the Campaigns Directorate in Brussels (Belgium):

  • Digital Communication Trainee - Content Creator
  • Digital Communication Trainee - Videographer
  • Digital Communication Trainee - Photographer
  • Digital Communication Trainee - Graphic Designer

All four roles sit at the heart of the Digital Communication team and provide a unique opportunity to work on exciting political communications tasks.

Compensation and benefits

  • monthly allowance of €1,700 to cover living costs in Brussels;
  • reimbursement of mission costs (travel and accommodation) to attend one plenary session of the European Parliament in Strasbourg;
  • a sickness and accident insurance.

What will you do?

This traineeship is an opportunity to obtain a unique experience in the Campaigns Directorate by assisting the Group's Digital Communication team in their everyday job and, therefore, a remarkable opportunity to work in a very dynamic, political and international environment.

✍️The Digital Communication Content Creator Trainee will carry out the following tasks:

  • Write short, engaging content, script video stories, capitalise on trends, and create images and infographics that convey our vision and views clearly and persuasively;
  • Support digital communication content creators in day-to-day tasks, such as research, drafting social media content, coordinating creative (audiovisual) production, arranging interviews with MEPs, and preparing weekly external and internal newsletters;
  • Monitor social media accounts; support online community management;
  • Prepare analytical reports on social media performance;
  • Draft notes, reports, and other documents.

The successful candidate will have a passion for online communications and EU politics, possess attention to detail and a curious mind, a hands-on mentality, some interest in analytics, be willing to learn and work in a team, and contribute to developing content that makes an impact.

🎥The Digital Communication Videographer Trainee will carry out the following tasks:

  • Support digital communication videographers in their day-to-day tasks in developing and editing videos based on the approved scripts;
  • Edit different types of videos for social media channels;
  • Support in filming and scripting short videos for online content (e.g., Instagram stories, reels);
  • Participate in brainstorms and suggest new creative ideas for audiovisual products.

The successful candidate will be passionate about online communications and video production/editing work. The successful candidate must demonstrate good knowledge of Adobe Premiere (editing, subtitling, basic sound mixing), basic knowledge of After Effects (working with pre-rendered templates) and basic knowledge of Photoshop. Also, the candidate will demonstrate the ability to work individually as well as in a team. We value creativity but also attention to detail and swift delivery times.

📸The Digital Communication Photographer Trainee will carry out the following tasks:

  • Contribute to creative brainstorming sessions;
  • Support the Group photographers in covering press conferences, official meetings and other events;
  • Assist with portrait shootings on site or in studio;
  • Use photo enhancing software.

The successful candidate must have a passion for photography. The candidate must also have Adobe Photoshop and/or Lightroom skills, know how to work with a professional camera and be able to work both independently and as part of a team. We value creativity but also attention to detail and swift delivery times.

🎨The Digital Communication Graphic Designer Trainee will carry out the following tasks:

  • Support graphic designers in their day-to-day tasks in developing graphic designs for online and offline products;
  • Participate in brainstorms and suggest new creative ideas for digital communication graphic design;
  • Support graphic designers and digital communication content creators in other creative and organisational tasks as required.

The successful candidate is a visual, creative thinker with an interest in international and EU politics, possesses Adobe Illustrator and Adobe Photoshop skills and preferably will have some knowledge of InDesign. The candidate must have the ability to work individually as well as in a team. We value creativity but also attention to detail and swift delivery times.

All the pictures taken during the traineeship belong to the EPP Group. In this sense, none of the pictures can be used without an agreement given by the EPP Group or can be financially rewarded in any case. Permission can be granted to use pictures taken during the traineeship in the framework of your studies. We provide all the necessary material to perform the above-mentioned tasks. However, the selected trainee can use his/her own equipment if he/she wishes so.

Who can apply? (Admission requirements)

📝The candidates who:

  • are nationals of a Member State of the EU or of an associated or candidate country;
  • have a very good knowledge (at least CEFR B2 level) of two official EU languages, one of which should be English, French or German (EU citizens) OR have a very good knowledge of the English language (non-EU citizens);
  • have not been granted a paid traineeship in the EU institutions/MEP offices and have not already been in gainful employment after the completion of their studies;
  • have a university degree or have completed at least three years of study (at least six semesters) at a university or an equivalent institute of higher education;

     

  • for the Trainee Photographer position:
    • secondary education giving access to post-secondary education attested by a diploma or post-secondary education of at least 2 years attested by a diploma in the field of Photography, Communication Design, etc.
    • a very good knowledge of Lightroom and Photoshop software.

Directorate's mission:

To provide high-level operational support for the Group's activities in the fields of ICT, HR, and Finance.

Trainees' job description:

  • Drafting minutes, briefing notes, and other documents
  • Assisting the ICT systems administrators in maintaining the Group's intranet, website, and internal databases
  • Assisting the HR team with follow-up on career and professional training for staff, as well as providing administrative support for diverse procedures
  • Assisting in the preparation of financial statements and analyses
  • Preparing statistical reports on various topics linked to the activity of the unit (respectively, ICT, HR, or Finance)
  • Contributing to the completion of tasks assigned to the unit

Directorate's mission:

To develop and implement the Group's strategy, outreach to the broader network of the EPP family and enhance contacts with the National Parliaments and Young Members Network. It comprises the Strategy Unit, the Outreach, Intercultural and Religious Dialogue Unit and the Events Unit.

Trainees' job description:

  • Writing notes on European policy issues
  • Carrying out background research for speeches, articles, and briefings
  • Supporting the organisation of external bureau meetings and EPP Group Academy events

Directorate's mission:

To coordinate the work of the Parliamentary Committees and plenary activities, such as legislative and non-legislative reports, amendments, and resolutions. It comprises the Legislative Coordination Unit, WG Economy and Environment, WG Budget and Structural Policies, and WG Legal and Home Affairs.

Trainees' job description:

  • Assisting in legislative work: contributing to drafting amendments, analysing reports, preparing comments on draft compromises, and preparing Committee and plenary voting lists
  • Assisting in Committee coordination: checking Members' attendance and Committee votes, coordinating Members' speaking time, supporting liaison and coordination with the Committee Secretariat and the Coordinator's office, and preparing preparatory meetings
  • Taking minutes of internal coordination meetings
  • Drafting comments on items to be voted on at the next plenary session, ahead of the Group Week
  • Writing summaries of EC proposals and communications, and attending stakeholders' events

Directorate's mission:

To organise the work of the Group's Committees and Inter-parliamentary Delegations in the field of external policies and to assist Members of the EPP Group in their activities within the Inter-parliamentary Delegations.

Trainees' job description:

  • Attending Committee and Inter-parliamentary Delegation meetings, drafting minutes, and reporting to the supervisor
  • Monitoring Parliamentary activities, performing background research, attending events, drafting briefings, and speaking points related to the work of the assigned Committee and Delegation
  • Assisting with the drafting and preparation of Committee reports, amendments, and urgency resolutions
  • Assisting with the preparation and follow-up of plenary discussions on matters related to the WG Foreign Policies

Directorate's mission:

To strengthen the Group's campaigning organisation, especially in the area of social media communication and in the organisation of the Group's campaigns. It is composed of the Digital Communication Unit.

Trainees' job description:

  • Preparing concepts for photo shoots to support communication campaigns
  • Researching, drafting prefaces, and proofreading Group publications in English
  • Attending Social Media Unit meetings

Directorate's mission:

To ensure that the legislative initiatives and political objectives of the EPP Group are communicated effectively to the Brussels press corps, journalists in the EU Member States, interested stakeholders and the public. It is divided into the European Press Unit and the National Press Unit.

Trainees' job description:

  • Daily monitoring and preparation of the press reviews of the national and European press
  • Research and media monitoring of EU hot topics
  • Following press briefings and writing reports on them
  • Following plenary sessions and assisting press officers in preparing draft press releases
  • Helping press officers draft main messages for topics related to legislative work
  • Following relevant meetings and writing minutes or briefings
  • Assisting in the organisation of press conferences and media events
  • Proofreading and translation
