United for Greenland
The EPP Group stresses the need for European unity and cooperation in response to President Trump’s claims on Greenland.
“The EPP Group stands firmly with the people of Greenland and expects everyone to respect the sovereignty of both Greenland and Denmark”, said Niels Flemming Hansen MEP, EPP member from Denmark, and Nicolás Pascual de la Parte MEP, the EPP spokesman on Security and Defence, ahead of today’s debate in the European Parliament on Greenland.
“The rhetoric coming from the US administration is unacceptable. We must stay on a diplomatic track, but we also need to maintain a military presence in Greenland in close cooperation with NATO. Unity is essential, and the EU should provide the strongest possible support to the people of Greenland”, Hansen underlined.
"The Arctic’s defence and security dimension, and Greenland’s in particular, is becoming ever more central in today’s strategic environment. We need stronger cooperation with our partners in the region to ensure stability, situational awareness, and the protection of our shared interests. The best way to achieve this is through NATO’s framework of collective security, which remains the cornerstone of our deterrence and defence posture”, stressed Pascual de la Parte MEP.
