Malta murder, Sakharov Prize, Corporate Taxes, Bees
During its latest plenary, the European Parliament debated the murder of the Maltese investigative journalist, with calls for the Prime Minister to resign. It awarded the Sakharov Prize to an ethnic Uyghur dissident jailed in China, with calls for sanctions against China and an investigation into detention camps the government there calls re-education centres. Parliament approved legislation to establish EU-wide corporate income reporting to get digital multinationals like Google and Amazon to pay their fair share of taxes. And it voted to boost measures to save bees and other pollinators whose numbers have been declining, threatening EU agriculture.
