Fight against organised crime, corruption, money laundering: major EPP Group priority.
The EPP Group welcomes the nomination of Salvatore Iacolino MEP as Rapporteur for the activities of the newly-created Special Committee against Organised Crime, Corruption and Money laundering (CRIM) in the European Parliament. "A clear success for our Group, which will play a key role in defining European Parliament priorities and common European standards in the fight against criminal activities," said Joseph Daul, Chairman of the EPP Group in the European Parliament. "Stronger police and judicial cooperation between Member States and with third countries is crucial for facing challenges like combatting mafias, trafficking in human beings, money laundering, corruption, confiscation of criminal assets, cybercrime and tracing illegal financial flows. In this period of economic crisis, the EPP Group is strongly engaged in defending a lawful economy and the security of citizens; it firmly believes in the added value of the EU in the fight against organised crime, corruption and money laundering," concluded Joseph Daul. The work of EPP Group Members in the CRIM Committee will be coordinated and guided by Veronique Mathieu MEP.
