EPP Group Public Hearing - Pegasus spyware scandal and its impact on democracy in the EU

On Thursday, 10 February from 11.00-13.00, the EPP Group will organise a public hearing on the threats posed by the Pegasus spyware to democracy and the rule of law. During the online event, Members of Parliament and experts will assess political and legal challenges resulting from the alleged use of intrusive spyware against political opposition, democratic institutions, journalists, and other actors and entities. The hearing will feed into preparations of a plenary debate in February and subsequently to a resolution on this topic. It should also help identify further actions that could be taken at EU level to safeguard democracy, the rule of law and citizens’ rights against similar threats in the future.
